About Today Was Not the Same book

Today Was Not the Same is a beautifully illustrated, 32-page children’s book.

The book is written as a narrative poem and told from the perspective of a precocious, second-grader. From the moment she wakes up, she instinctively notices that the adults in her life are acting differently throughout the day.

Her insightfulness and curiosity lead to a meaningful conversation with her family in which they tell her that a Black man was hurt by the police.

Her family calmly answers her questions in a way that she and young readers can understand without fear. As a part of the discussion, her family also shares with her various actions that we can all take to advocate for change.

The book concludes with the young girl thanking her family for explaining to her why “today was not the same”.
